NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – Hundreds of residents turned out to celebrate New Providence Appreciation Day in downtown New Providence, New Jersey on Saturday.
Many New Providence businesses and non-profit organizations participated in the day’s festivities. Prudential realtors were handing out hot soft pretzels, Pioneer Pizza & Grill supplied sorbet, while hamburgers were being cooked on the grill at McGrath’s new location on South Street and Towne Vision was supplying hotdogs with all of the fixings. Meanwhile, not-for-profits like the Community Service Association were discussing their organizations and providing information about them to residents. CSA is holding their Classic Car Show today, weather permitting, to help raise money to support their mission.
Meanwhile, Rich Brugger over at Karate World along with the New Providence Police Department and Actual Solutions were finger printing children and providing safety kits and Dr. Sperlazza gave at talk at Karate World regarding how children can control their tempers and deal with bullying. Pet adoptions were taking place at Village Pet Center and a clown was strolling the Village Shopping Center entertaining young and old alike.
Bill Ferdinand of Ferdinand’s Jewelers and organizer of Appreciation Day for the New Providence Downtown Improvement District said that the purpose of Appreciation Day is to recognize all of the not-for-profits in the community and for the business community to say thank you to the residents of the Borough. "There are lots of good things going on in the community. New Providence is a very special place with caring residents and businesses. There’s a lot of giving and caring going on in our Borough," Ferdinand said. "To me, the more you give, the better things are," he added. Remarking about how many people were strolling the sidewalks of New Providence on the beautiful Saturday and partaking in the activities and events being offered at Appreciation Day, Ferdinand said, "This is a great town. People are walking on the sidewalk and enjoying our downtown. Our town is alive."
Paula Do Lago of Investors Savings Bank said, "We are very excited to be participating in New Providence Appreciation Day. This is my first time involved and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day."
